A Little History of Nuts and Volts Automotive

Hi there! We are the team at Nuts and Volts Automotive.
Ryan Wensel, Lord of the Charge and Owner
Ian, High-Voltage Handler and Vehicle Technician
Tess, Voltage Visionary and Office Administrator

Ryan started his career in the automotive industry in 2004 at a small Ford/Chrysler dealership. Within months, he graduated from changing oil to fully diagnosing the complicated systems that make up an automobile. His next move was to an independent shop performing services and repairs on all makes and models of vehicles, but he felt like there was more to the automotive world that could benefit from his passion for cars. Through a little bit of luck, and a whole lot of persistence, he was able to land a job at another independent shop, this time working on high end vehicles (including Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, and Maserati). After 10+ years of servicing and learning from these vehicles, an opportunity opened up to help a friend build his budding performance oriented shop into a reputable place that is comfortable working on 1,000 horsepower street cars. This is where Ryan was introduced to his first Tesla. This one Electric Vehicle provided an insight into what the future holds, and he became immediately fascinated with what seemed like pure magic propelling the vehicle down the road. Through years of research and training courses, the magic has shown itself to be mostly simple electronics with basic mechanical interactions – just Nuts and Volts. The fascination and passion are still strong, so now is the time to apply Ryan’s skills to the vehicles of the future. Nuts and Volts Automotive is here to maintain, repair, and customize not only your Hybrid/Electric Vehicles, but also your Internal Combustion Engine Vehicles (so we don’t lose sight of where the automobile passion began)!

Ryan has gained a lifetime’s worth of automotive knowledge throughout his career, and the interesting path that he’s taken has proven time and time again that there is always more to learn. Ryan’s first experience with carburetors was on a 1979 Ferrari 308 GTS. This vehicle showed him how critical it is to have a properly adjusted ignition and fuel system. Talk about learning… setting the ignition timing (the first step to a properly tuned system) properly between the two banks (halves of a “V” engine) was a challenge in it’s own right! But, he had no idea what he was in for when it came time for the air/fuel mixtures. Four double-barrel Webers sit on top of a 1979 308 engine, and each barrel is essentially it’s own carburetor – 8 idle mixture jets, 8 main fuel jets, 8 venturis, and 4 throttle arms all had to be in perfectly synchronized harmony. After two days of adjusting too far on one barrel, then too far the other way on another barrel, it all clicked – the proverbial lightbulb moment – and every one of the 8 cylinders in that old Ferrari purred in perfect synchrony. Over the years, Ryan has found that every carburetor, on every engine has it’s own personality. The same adjustments performed on two different vehicles can easily give drastically differing results, further proving the need to continually be learning and open to adapting.

Whether it’s 2 electric motors dancing in harmony under your car, or internal combustion under your hood, Nuts and Volts Automotive has what it takes to keep you moving down the road!

WARRANTY INFORMATION:

Nuts and Volts Automotive is proud to warrant our workmanship and selection of quality parts used to repair your vehicle.

At the cost of headaches and hours of brain-twisting diagnostic procedures, we have learned that certain components on your vehicle require the precision engineering and high quality production of replacement parts that only the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) can fulfill.

By calculated choice or (at times) out of necessity, we have also learned of many pieces that make up a safely functioning automobile that are happy being replaced with the affordable aftermarket option. At times, even, the aftermarket replacement parts are better engineered to withstand the harsh environments that define the Texas public roadways.

It is because of these trials and tribulations that Nuts and Volts Automotive is able to back our mechanical repairs with a 1 year/10,000 mile warranty. The warranty covers diagnosis of the recurrent issue, parts, and labor cost to correct a fault found with a mechanical repair previously performed through, and using parts supplied by Nuts and Volts Automotive. The individual to authorize a warranty diagnosis assumes all financial responsibility to cover diagnostic fees and subsequent repair costs if fault is found aside from a previous repair performed by Nuts and Volts Automotive within a warranty time period.

Nuts and Volts Automotive can not, and will not, warrant a repair using customer supplied parts, due to the variable nature of parts manufacturing processes and the potential for the parts supplied to not be designed for the vehicle they are requested to be installed to.
